1. Introduction

SnapScale (“the App”) respects your privacy. Most weight and health-data processing occurs locally on your device. If you choose to use the optional Body Scan feature, the App securely uploads the information described below for cloud processing.

2. Data We Access

• Weight Scan Camera Data: Used locally to read a scale display. It is not uploaded by the weight-scanning feature.
• Body Scan Photos: If you start a Body Scan, one front-view and one side-view photo are uploaded to our private Google Cloud storage and processed with Google Vertex AI to estimate body-fat percentage and assess image quality.
• Body Scan Profile: Biological sex, adult age, height, and any optional weight or body measurements you provide are sent with a Body Scan because they can improve the estimate.
• App Authentication Data: An Apple-signed App Transaction is verified to protect the service from abuse. We derive a pseudonymous identifier from signed transaction data to enforce scan limits; the App does not send your Apple ID.
• Apple Health Data: With your permission, the App may read health data (e.g., weight and sleep) to display or analyze insights. That reading and analysis remains on-device. A Body Scan result may be written to Apple Health only with your permission.

3. How Data Is Used

On-device data is used to display and analyze health metrics, generate insights, and optionally save results to Apple Health. Body Scan data is used only to authenticate the request, produce the requested estimate, return machine-readable image-quality feedback, enforce scan limits, secure the service, and diagnose service failures.

4. Cloud Processing and Service Providers

Body Scan data is processed in Google Cloud, including Cloud Run, Cloud Storage, Firestore in Datastore mode, and Vertex AI. Google processes this data on our behalf to operate the feature. We do not sell Body Scan photos or use them for advertising.

5. Subscriptions and Payments

Payments are processed by Apple via in-app purchase. SnapScale does not access or store payment details. We may store a local flag indicating subscription status to unlock features.

6. Data Retention and Control

In production, Body Scan photos are scheduled for deletion immediately after an estimate or terminal image-quality result. A private storage lifecycle rule is a backstop for incomplete uploads and transient failures and expires remaining photos after they reach one day of age; lifecycle execution is asynchronous and may occur shortly after that threshold. Upload links and sessions expire after one hour.

Body Scan service records may retain a pseudonymous identifier, request timing, scan outcome, and the returned estimate or quality result as needed for idempotency, rate limiting, security, and support. They do not contain the uploaded photos. On-device records can be deleted by removing the App or deleting records from Apple Health.

7. Security

Body Scan traffic is encrypted in transit. Uploaded photos are stored in a private bucket with public access prevention, and access is limited to the service identity. No service-account private key is embedded in the App.

8. Children’s Privacy

SnapScale is for users 16 and older. The Body Scan feature is restricted to adults age 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect Body Scan photos from children.
